Raised in Brooklyn, New York - Romeo Hunte grew up surrounded by women whose creative approach to fashion inspired him from an early age. Hunte turned down two full athletic scholarships in Track and Field to pursue his dream of becoming a fashion designer. He decided to face the challenges of the Fashion Industry by first attending the Fashion Institute of Technology and later launching his own independent fashion brand in 2014. By working full time as a personal shopper in luxury retail and with lifetime experiences in editorial styling, Hunte has been able to continue the development of the brand. Hunte strikes the perfect balance between creativity and practicality; which plays a huge role in each collection he designs.
In 2014, Hunte’s first full collection was noticed by Net-A-Porter and Saks Fifth Avenue. Later, both Barney's and Bergdorf Goodman took notice. His first celebrity client was Zendaya. She wore the brand three consecutive times for press week. Later, Beyoncé wore his signature buffalo check shawl and this went viral and increased his e-commerce sales significantly. In addition, he had the opportunity and pleasure to create a custom dress for Beyoncé that went viral as well and "broke the Internet." Victor Cruz favored the brand and was spotted wearing a buffalo check shawl in Paris for fashion week. During an interview with Mr. Porter Magazine, Victor Cruz highlighted the buffalo check shawl as being a piece by Romeo Hunte "that he likes to wear.” Laverne Cox, Keke Palmer and Hailey Baldwin all have been seen wearing the brand.
In 2016, Hunte was mentioned by WWD as “Designer to Watch" and was honored by Essence Magazine as “Designer to Watch.” Later that year, Teen Vogue took notice and was quoted saying the following about Hunte: “He is well on his way of becoming a household name.” Hunte also has been fortunate to attend the 2015 & 2016 Met Gala. As the industry continues to take notice of the brand, in 2017, Hunte was nominated as a finalist for Womenswear Fashion Group International Rising Star Award.
